As promised on my post 'The Essentials - A First Timer's Guide To El Nido Palawan' , I'd briefly take you inside Eco Hotel, the chic eco-friendly hotel where I have stayed during my 4-day catching-up-with-myself vacay in El Nido, Palawan. This hotel is located in Brgy. Corong-corong, a few kilometers away from the busy and very congested town proper.

On Becoming An Ethical Traveller

travel responsibly

Right before I hopped on the plane and went on the trip to my home country, I attended

Condé Nast Traveller Middle East's Luxury Travel Forum where they mentioned six traveller personalities: Obligation Meeter, Simplicity Searcher, Reward Hunter, Social Capital Seeker, Cultural Purist, and Ethical Traveller -  I chose to be the latter. This is why I think Eco Hotel is truly fit for ethical travellers who love and care for our mother nature.

Every corner of the hotel is made up of eco-friendly materials - hand-made crafts, home-made bricks, felled tree furnishings, up-cycled resources (one of it is the light bulb across the hall ways that were made from wine bottles) and re-purposed materials. Eco conscious travellers have the option to use solar energy for power as well.

What Tourists And Travellers Say About Eco Hotel

I came in last week of November and surprisingly, the hotel is fully booked even on off-peak season. Coming from the multi-cultural city of Dubai, I was surprised to see travellers from Europe and Middle East arriving every now and then at Eco Hotels. Many in-house guests are even asking to extend their room nights for a day or 2. Overhearing these requests during breakfast and before I left the island, I went back to check my app on TripAdvisor and went through the reviews then I asked myself - why do people post things that are not even true?

They have the most cheerful staffs, ready to assist you 24/7. I tried looking for a bug on their beds but failed to do so. Check-in was smoothly done. Breakfast is available in 15mins or less once you have already requested for it.

I had a quick conversation with one of their guests from Finland and here's what she had to say: not all reviews on TripAdvisor is actually true, some were just made up by competitor hotels nearby.

The Standard Room

A standard room at Eco Hotel is good for 2 people, with a queen sized bed in a 16sq meter room. A hammock hangs outside every room so if you ever get tired of the bed, you have another option.

Other facilities include Flat Screen Cable TV, Ceiling Fan, Open Wardrobe and Luggage Rack, Safety Deposit Box, En suite Toilet and Bath, Solar Powered Hot Shower, Bath and Hand Towels, Hand & Body Wash, Solar Powered Desk Fan, and Solar Powered Emergency Pendant Lights.

Every room is neat and clean when you check in, the standard check-in time is at 2pm and check-out is at 12nn.

If you ever check in and don't find any hygiene kits, all you have to do is ask at the reception or place this on special request when you hit book button on your hotel booking platform. This is because they are provided only upon request to minimise the unnecessary consumption of resources that usually end up in trash bins after one use.

Other Services At Eco Hotel

If you have extra budget to spend on accommodation when in El Nido, booking a SUNSET VIEW KING ROOM is advisable. Eco Hotel is situated at the beach front of Corong-corong bay, where magical change of hues happen during sunset. It has the same facilities of the standard room however, facing the best Palawan sunset views with nice hammocks too.

Aside from this, Eco Hotel also have the following services:
  • Eco Hotel has a daily housekeeping service
  • They are a pet-friendly hotel and they welcome furry pets up to 25 pounds, subject to a pet fee of Php 500 per pet per night
  • Their Front Desk Staff is happy to arrange tours and transportation for you (my favorite is kuya Ryan Colonia, he's just very happy!)
  • Eco Hotel has an On Call Massage Service
  • They have designated smoking areas and foot wash area too
